“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

Today was another historical day of taking a stand for the WFJ GLOBAL MOVEMENT. Team destiny hosted their final of three WFJ (Words From Jesus) webinars in December 2009 called “The Miracle of Christmas.”

Dr. Joseph Peck served as the global connector and host of this webinar. The guest panelists were: Deb Smith, Richard Mayhan, Bertha Hinson, and me, Abigail Slocum. Clearly the Holy Spirit took control of the webinar before it ever started and never let go!

He began by waking me up at 3:22 AM to give me this prophetic word – WFJ: THE MIRACLE OF CHRISTMAS IS CHRIST! It was His way of orchestrating the whole focus for the discussion. These are the questions we covered:

WFJ: THE MIRACLE OF CHRISTMAS IS CHRIST!

Take the tour of the Word and be free in Christ. CHRISTMAS IS A SEASON FOR MIRACLES BUT EVERY DAY IS A MIRACLE IN CHRIST! TO BE IN CHRIST IS THE GREATEST MIRACLE OF ALL.

SALVATION IS THE GREATEST MIRACLE OF ALL. It is God�s free gift to all mankind. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall be saved (have eternal life).(John 3:16).

What is so miraculous is that SALVATION IS THE “GREAT EXCHANGE!” MAN GIVES GOD HIS IMPERFECT, BROKEN, SINFUL LIFE IN EXCHANGE FOR A PERFECT (COMPLETE) LIFE IN CHRIST. JESUS GIVES HIS ALL FOR OUR ALL!

When you receive Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, the LIGHT OF THE WORLD – THE CANDLE OF MAN, comes into your heart to show you the most excellent way of all to live. IT IS THE WAY OF LOVE BECAUSE GOD IS LOVE.

In this “GREAT EXCHANGE,” your old sinful man dies and the new man comes alive in Christ. CHRIST LIVES THROUGH YOU to live the perfect will of God which is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Romans 14:17).

Unity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is your inheritance as a born again child of God. IT IS A LIFE OF VICTORY AND TOTAL PROVISION. To be one with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is to be free from every bondage of sin and to be free to experience the fullness and abundance of life in Christ Jesus. JESUS IS THE DOOR TO FREEDOM AND TOTAL FULFILLMENT.

Jesus� arms are open wide and ALL THAT BELONGS TO THE FATHER OF LIGHTS IS YOURS WHEN YOU SAY “YES” TO JESUS who is the express image and likeness of God, and His Kingdom of Love becomes yours!

IT IS A SUPERNATURAL GIFT OF DIVINE INFUSION AND PROPORTION AND IS THE GREATEST MIRACLE OF ALL! Become one with the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Who is Jesus?
How has He dramatically changed your life?

When I was working part-time as an anesthesiologist in Giles County Virginia, one of my top spiritual connections was Geraldine Shaver. I referred to her as “God’s scout for me in Giles” in my devotional message on December 12, 2006 titled “The Miracle of Geraldine Shaver.”

Geraldine has a heart after God’s heart and is a powerful intercessor for the Kingdom of God. One day she told me the story of meeting Richard McMahon, founder of “Jesus For America” at the the local Walmart. Apparently Richard had his RV parked for several days at that Walmart with a bold message in large letters on the outside. After Geraldine introduced herself, Richard gave her his CD titled “The Answer.”

As a dear friend, Geraldine forwarded that CD to me. I uploaded that message to my iTunes and have listened to it at least 30 times. It is the most clear explanation of what it means to be “born again” that I have ever heard.

How important is it to be born-again? The central message of Jesus is this, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3) That is what Jesus shared with Nicodemus, a Pharasee and ruler of the Jews, when he came to converse with Jesus in private.

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, (1 Peter 1:6-7)

When was the last time you were touched – deeply moved by something you didn’t expect?

On March 13, I received an email titled “The Fragile Nature of Life” from John G. Miller, founder of QBQ! (The Question Behind the Question),  In his email John shared that his website had been hosted over the past decade by a firm that had gone through many name changes. But in spite of frequent name and ownership changes, one thing remained constant at this firm – Jeff Hilton. Whenever John had technical problems and frustrations, he’d email Jeff. Never met Jeff. Didn’t know Jeff. Had no idea of Jeff’s age, family situation, likes or dislikes, hobbies or heritage. John’s communication with Jeff was always by email. Then on March 1, 2008, Jeff died of a heart attack at the age of 30.

When I went to Lake Tahoe in September 2007 to watch my wife compete in the National Xterra Triathlon Championships, I met Jamie Whitmore, the 2007 female champion. I was there taking photos as Jamie crossed the finish line in first place. What most impressed me was how she acknowledged and thanked God at the start of her TV interview shortly after winning. When Jamie raced, she prominently displayed a sticker on her bike, “Powered by God.”

Two days ago I learned from my wife that Jamie had recently been hospitalized because of an undiagnosed tumor. On the home page of her website, Jamie says “I am finally home after 10 days in the hospital.  I wish I could say that everything is ok but the truth is, we still don’t know what we are dealing with.  After 3 different biopsies we know that the tumor originated in the glut and grew into my pelvic area.  It is the size of a baseball and is pushing up against my organs and the nerves in my left leg. The doctors aren’t really sure if the tumor is pushing or growing out of my nerves.  Either way I am in a lot of pain.  More pain then the bike course of Utah, Tahoe and Maui put together.  On a scale of 1-10, (1 being no pain and 10 being a lot), my pain ranges from 5 on a good day and 11 on a bad day.  None of the pain meds or “nerve blockers” work well. The sad part is that it is affecting my ability to walk properly.  I can walk on my own but I use a walker for stability and so that I can walk longer.”

How would you respond to such a trial? On the web page titled “Prayer for Jamie,” a good friend of Jamie writes, “Bottom line… Jamie sees this as one more opportunity to give God glory and a way for her to share her faith with so many who are yet to hear it.”

God doesn’t promise that life will be fair or that we won’t have problems. Everyone has problems. How we respond to the trials of life ultimately shapes our character. God commands us to give thanks in all circumstances.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Jamie Whitmore and her unwavering faith in You. I join with many others in prayer asking You to bless Jamie – her health, her family, and her life. May Jamie’s testimony of Your goodness change the lives of many fellow competitors and other athletes around the world. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.

Do you share Jesus with passion and the power of God?
If not, what can you do to facilitate that?

Yesterday, Dr. Lloyd John Ogilvie came to Culpeper and shared power-packed messages on two separate occasions. From Noon – 2 PM, a group of 60 pulpit and marketplace ministers gathered at the restaurant adjacent to the Best Western to hear him share a message about preaching for passion.

Then at 6:45 PM, about 500 people gathered at Culpeper Baptist Church for our annual community Thanksgiving service. To my knowledge, this was the largest gathering ever for this event. Dr. Ogilvie preached another great message titled “Aptitude, Altitude, and Attitude of Gratitude.” Visit today’s Link of the Day to see photos.

When it comes to preaching, Dr. Ogilvie is one of the best. In February 1996, he was recognized by Baylor University in a worldwide survey as one of the 12 most effective preachers in the English-speaking world. Included on the list, in which seven denominations are represented, are Rev. Billy Graham and Dr. John Stott.

Here are some points that Dr. Ogilvie made in his “Preaching for Passion” message yesterday:

“Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” (John 12:21) This is the basis for preaching with passion – to help people see Jesus, the true and living God.

The Greek word for passion actually means suffering.
Only what happens to us can happen through us!
We have a great need for Christ and a great Christ for our needs! – Charles Spurgeon
To preach with passion takes one hour in the study for every minute in the pulpit.
The preaching of the Word of God is the Word of God.
Listen to what your congregation wants and needs.
Preach as if never to preach again.
With preaching, Christianity stands or falls.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the profound impact that Dr. Ogilvie had on the Culpeper community yesterday. Thank You for the good turnouts. Thank You for uniting the hearts of pulpit and marketplace ministers at the luncheon. May the rich seeds that were planted bear much eternal fruit. Deepen the relationships our pastors have with You. May they desire to spend much more time in Your presence so they can help many more people see Jesus. May our pastors come together on a weekly basis with one another to pray and hold one another accountable. Thank You Jesus. Amen.

“He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us.” (2 Corinthians, 1:3-5, The Message)

At 4:30 AM in the morning on October 15, the same day that Sharon Graham received her two bouquets of flowers, Nick Chaconas sent a daily devotional titled “Pay it Forward” on behalf of Jeff and Jill Williams, co-founders of Grace and Truth Relationship Education.

Apparently, Jeff and Jill asked Nick for help in writing the October 15 devotional because they were away at a weekend retreat for life coaches sponsored by Tony Stolzfus on October 12-14. Incidentally, I learned about this from Jerry and Sharon Graham, who were also at that retreat. I’ve never met Nick and didn’t know anything about him until talking to Jerry.

Diane Peck, my sister-in-law, was the first person to encourage me to watch the movie Pay it Forward. After renting the movie on DVD about 1-2 years after it came out, I ended up buying my own DVD and watching the movie several more times with various friends. The principle of paying it forward – multiplication through uncommon generosity – subsequently became a guiding principle for me in being a catalyst to expand God’s Kingdom.

In his outstanding and transparent message, Nick shares the history of the phrase and principle “pay it forward.” He also shares a transparent message about a major personal slump he was in last year and how God delivered him from that. Visit today’s Link of the Day to read Nick’s message.

Pay It Forward

A recent TV commercial for a national insurance company portrays a series of good deeds witnessed by different men and women, who in turn are prompted to perform good deeds for others. This ongoing series of doing for others as it has been done for them has been described as, “Paying it Forward.”
 
“Many people mistakenly believe the phrase “pay it forward” as a moral philosophy first appeared in Catherine Ryan Hyde’s novel Pay It Forward, which in 2000 was adapted into the film, Pay It Forward. Science fiction author Robert A. Heinlein, however, used the phrase in Between Planets, a book published in 1951, almost 50 years before Ryan Hyde’s novel.”*
 
Paying it Forward was recommended much earlier than 1951. The Apostle Paul wrote about it in his second letter to the Corinthians: 
 
“He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us.” (2 Corinthians, 1:3-5, The Message)
 
There was a time last year that I was going through some difficult times both personally and professionally. I often struggled to just make it through the day. Helping others wasn’t on my mind. It took every ounce of energy to focus on myself, I wasn’t interested in helping anyone else, and even if I did want to help – I resigned myself to the belief that I could not be helpful to anyone else. 
 
Have similar thoughts or questions gone through your mind?
• I don’t have anything of value to share with anyone else.
• I’ve got my own issues – who would want my input/support?
• I’ve done too much harm to too many people to warrant helping someone else.
• I don’t have it figured all out – who can I help?

As I continue to recover from my struggles, I have been stunned by the number of opportunities to support and encourage friends going through hard times. Once it meant being available to listen and act as a sounding board. Recently I’ve been investing time to disciple a friend to develop and strengthen his love for Christ.
 
It is humbling, surprising, rewarding and right to give to others. Sometimes I don’t feel qualified, but I now believe that this is God’s plan for me; that I should live a life of continually “paying it forward”, and that I am to selflessly give to others out of what I have received from Him.
 
How have others come alongside you? What have you learned in difficulties that you might not have learned otherwise? How are you “paying it forward”?
 
Zig Ziglar, a well known contemporary motivational speaker says, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you do have to start to be great.”
 
Can you start simply by holding a door open for someone at the office? How about doing the dishes or folding the laundry for your spouse?
 
Prayer
Thank you, Lord, for your Son. Thank you for the trials and tribulations of our lives. I recently heard someone say “if the mountain were smooth, you couldn’t climb it”. Father, I pray that you would open my eyes and my heart to be increasingly more aware of opportunities to pay it forward, to give back a portion of what I have received. In Jesus’ name I pray. [You reap what you sow, later than you sow, much more than you sow, and where you sow.]

The 3 laws of sowing and reaping are some of the most sure ones in the whole universe.

1) You always reap what you sow.

When you plant apple seeds, you get apple trees, never orange trees. When you sow good seeds (e.g. words of life and acts of kindness) into people lives, you will either get good fruit or no fruit, but never bad fruit.

2) You reap later than you sow.

When a farmer plants corn seeds, he doesn’t yell at the corn demanding it to come up right away. Rather, he knows that in due season the seeds will yield a bountiful harvest.

3) You reap much more than you sow.

When you sow one grain of wheat, you often get 100 grains back at harvest time. If you were guaranteed to get at least a 3,000% return on money you invested in a mutual fund, you’d invest in a heart beat. Well, God promises that when You sow good seed (your time, talent, or treasure) into good soil with a cheerful heart, then you will get a 30, 60, or 100 fold return.

Are you sowing bountifully into the lives of people you meet?
If so, are you doing this in faith, expecting God to multiply it?

Heavenly Father, I praise You as the greatest giver ever. For You so loved the world (me) that You gave your only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16). I praise You as the God of multiplication. May I sow lots of good seeds into the lives of people I meet every day. Thank You for Your promise to multiply those. Bless each person reading this message with a generous heart. What is prayer evangelism?
How is that impacting cities and nations around the globe?

In March of 2005, my life changed forever when I met Rick Heeren over the phone. I knew God had called me to be a great salesman for the Word of God and to be a catalyst to transform the state of Virginia, but I didn’t know how.

When Rick and his wife, Rachel, first came to Culpeper Virginia in June 2005, Rick said his goal was to establish a beachhead for prayer evangelism. God used him to do that. Following his first visit to Culpeper, the Culpeper Star Exponent newspaper headline read “Business forecast: A new spiritual climate.” How prophetic. Within two weeks, Pray Culpeper was birthed and a committed group of marketplace and pulpit ministers began meeting weekly to pray for our community.

Rick came back to Culpeper two more times, in August 2005 and February 2006. Now Rick is returning again on June 20-21. He has a tremendous anointing to transform businesses and communities. Rick recently told me he is committed to the transformation of Culpeper. Many cities in America and other nations are vying for his attention.

Rick Heeren will be speaking from 6:30-8:30 PM on Wed June 20 in the large meeting room of the Culpeper Library. This meeting is open to the public. Rick will also be leading a more casual meeting in the conference room of the Culpeper Library from Noon-1:30 PM on June 20 and 21. If you live within a two hour drive of Culpeper, I strongly encourage you to come to catch the vision for city and nation transformation.

What is some of the fruit from the weekly Pray Culpeper prayer gatherings? 1) God connected several Culpeper residents directly with the Harvest Evangelism leadership team and the International Transformation Network (ITN). 2) Culpeper participated in the Global Day of Prayer in 2006 and 2007. 3) The Culpeper News began publishing a free weekly prayer focus article about a different community leader each week. 4) Two local public schools were prayer-walked by 60-70 people. 5) God multiplied the number of tickets to Battle Cry from 40 in 2006 to 800 in 2007.

Thank you that Rick is coming back to Culpeper on June 20-21. Bless him, Culpeper, and Virginia as a result of this visit. What was the founding principle of the Virginia Company was back in 1607?

Starting in 1607, a missionary thread seems to weave in and out of our nation’s history. Do you know what the founding principle of the Virginia Company was back in 1607? Do you know the real reason the English settlers first came here in 1607?

When Jesus sent out seventy disciples two-by-two in verse one, the Greek word behind “sent out” (Luke 10:1) is “apostello”.  In verse two, when He said to His disciples, “Pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest field,” the Greek word behind “send out” (Luke 10:2) is “ekballo”, a completely different word. 

Ekballo and apostello have two entirely different meanings.  Apostello is the basis for the English word “apostle,” and it means “ambassador, commissioned one, one who carries the full weight and authority and power of the king.”  This power is specifically given to the messenger, the ambassador, to proclaim a message.

Ekballo means “drive out, cast out, or thrust out.”   When Jesus would drive out a demon, He would ekballo it.  When Jesus drove the moneychangers from the temple with a whip of cords, the Greek is ekballo.   Translating ekballo as a gentle “send out” doesn’t do the word justice.

So how does the Lord of the harvest send us into the harvest field?  He compels us to go.  Persecution arises.  The disciples scatter. Then, as it says in Acts, those who are scattered go everywhere preaching the word.

How does this apply to America?  Well, believe or not, our nation was started by missionaries, and a missionary thread weaves in and out of our history.  The real reason the first English settlers came to the New World in 1607 was not to find gold, discover a passage to the Spice Islands, establish plantations, or even pursue religious liberty.  As incredible as it sounds, their primary goal was missions. 

Four hundred years ago, the first permanent English settlement started on the coast of Virginia with an unusual purpose.  The Virginia Company had a mission statement entitled, A True and Sincere Declaration of the Purposes and Ends of the Plantation Begun in Virginia.  The first principle was “to preach and baptize into the Christian religion, and by the propagation of the Gospel, to recover out of the arms of the Devil, a number of poor and miserable souls, wrapt up unto death in almost invincible ignorance; to endeavor the fulfilling and accomplishment of the number of the elect which shall be gathered out of all the corners of the earth; and to add to our mite the treasury of heaven.” 

Prayer Power
Jesus, Your purpose in coming to earth was to seek and save that which was lost. (Luke 19:10). America was once the greatest missionary nation in the world. Use today’s Consecration Conference and tomorrow’s Dedication Sunday in Virginia Beach to unite America in prayer and restore our Christian heritage. Bless us to once again be a great missionary nation and release our wealth to bless the world. Thank You. Amen.

What is the key to fulfilling the Great Commission?

Today marks the first day of Spring in the northern hemisphere. Spring is the season of new life when flowers and trees are blooming. With people, new life begins the moment we invite Jesus into our hearts. While we are born spiritually dead, each of us has the opportunity to be reborn spiritually through Jesus. He is the gate, the way, the truth, and the life.

Last week, Sheriff Lee Hart was the subject of Pray Culpeper’s weekly prayer focus article in the Culpeper News. While our prayer team was praying for Sheriff Hart, Ed Lyons prayed a prayer that really touched my heart. During his prayer, Ed stated that just like the Sheriff’s Department has its own “most wanted” list, so does God. His most wanted are the lost – those who don’t know Him. Blessing Israel is the key to fulfilling the Great Commission.

Jesus was 100% Jewish. So were all his disciples. Except for Luke, all the writers of the New Testament were Jewish. Jesus’ mission was simple “to seek and save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:10)

Last year, Jeff Bernstein, my Messianic Jewish friend, told me “When your city (Culpeper) gets a heart for a God’s city (Jerusalem), then God will get a heart for your city.” That was a real eye opener for me. A few months later, the Holy Spirit told me “When your state (Virginia) gets a heart for God’s nation (Israel), then God will get a heart for your state.”

Then about a month ago when I was driving to Fredericksburg Virginia to hear In One Accord play and sing at Grace Church during the 21 days of prayer, fasting, and worship, the Holy Spirit told me “When In One Accord gets a heart for God’s nation (Israel), then God will get a heart for In One Accord.”

I shared this revelation with the In One Accord praise team. Now Vickie Pittman and Tim Smith, both who sing for In One Accord, are joining me on the upcoming trip to Israel. All three of us are members of Soul Purpose Church. We leave on March 25 and return on April 4. On April 2, which begins Passover, our team will be blessed to visit the spring of Moses and then follow in Moses’ footsteps to Biblical Mount Nebo for a unique and prophetic Passover banquet. Our historic Seder will be led by Hebrew roots teacher Michael Cohen. Then we will stay overnight in Jordan’s capital, Amman.

When I first talked to Patti May, she asked me “How can you say you love Israel if you have never been there?” That question speaks volumes. What are some practical ways you can bless Israel even if you can’t go there?

1) Bless those who are going to Israel with gifts or finances to leave in Israel
2) Pray daily for a Jewish person you know and reach out to bless him/her
3) Bless Jeff Bernstein and Gates of Zion [www.gatesofzion.net] to open the eyes of Jewish people world-wide to the light of the Messiah

Prayer Power
Heavenly Father, the Jewish people and Israel are the apple of Your eye. Open the eyes of understanding of Jewish people world-wide to the light of the Messiah. Thank You for all the people and organizations reaching out to bless Israel. Bless our Battalion of Deborah team with uncommon favor during our visit to Israel this Passover. Clear away whatever obstacles there may be. In the name of Yeshua Messiah I pray. Amen.
