* MARRIAGE, VIRGINIA »

[6 Nov 2006 | No Comment | ]

“One Man, One Woman” is how God defines marriage.
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. (Genesis 2:24)
Doesn’t Virginia state law already limit marriage to one man and one woman?
Is a constitutional amendment really needed?
The answer is “Yes” because it’s the only way to take the issue out of the hands of activist judges.
Tomorrow (November 7, 2006) when voters in Virginia go to the polls, they will have the opportunity to amend the state Constitution …

“Success is where preparation and opportunity meet.” – Bobby Unser
Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)
Recently I discovered that my pastor is taking an engaged couple through a lengthy pre-marital preparation course. I think that is wonderful to avoid disasters since an ounce of prevention is worth a pound (ton) of cure.
While looking for links for this week’s devotionals, I was led to John Piper’s website called “Desiring God.” There I found a very practical message titled “Topics for Conversation When …

* MARRIAGE, * PRAYER, CULPEPER, VIRGINIA »

As the family goes, so goes the nation!
Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. (Isaiah 60:1)
What are a few lead dominos to make Virginia the healthiest state in the nation?
I believe one is prayer and another is blessing marriages.
When I went to Argentina for the very first time in October 2005, I met many outstanding marketplace and pulpit ministers. However, of all the people I met there, Jack Serra had the greatest impact on me and my family when he …

 Biblical unity first begins with our own communion with God and then emanates outward from the marriage.
 ”that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” (John 17:21)
Shortly before going to the cross, Jesus prayed for unity (John 17:21). Unity glorifies God, while disunity pushes people away from God.
My heart’s desire is to see cities and nations transformed by the power of God. For that to happen …

* MARRIAGE, Holiness »

[31 Aug 2006 | No Comment | ]

Holiness is an act of faith and can be imparted to others!
“Be holy; for I am holy!” (Leviticus 11:44, 1 Peter 1:16)
Are you holy?
What sin(s) in your life do you need to ask God for help to conquer?
God commands us to be holy, not to try to be holy. This is an act of faith and requires the power of the Holy Spirit within us. When we meet God face to face, He imparts holiness to us. Remember how Moses’ face would glow after meeting with God. Jack Serra says …

The role of the wife is helpmate – revealer of the enemy.
“be filled with the Spirit, … submitting to one another in the fear of God. Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.” (Ephesians 5:18b, 21, 22)
If we look at Ephesians 5:21, we are told that each of us is to submit to one another out of reverence to Christ. Then and only then is the wife told she is to submit to her husband. There is no question wives are to submit to their husband in …

The husband’s role is to create an environment conducive to holiness in his home.
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.” (Ephesians 5:25-27)
As you may know, the husband has been chosen by God to be the head of the …

* MARRIAGE, Marketplace »

The businessman’s ministry in the marketplace will only advance to the extent that his marriage permits.
“Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.” (1 Peter 3:7)
When I went to Argentina in October 2005 for the Harvest Evangelism conference, I met some tremendous marketplace and pulpit ministers. However, the person who impacted me the most was Jack Serra. Jack never had an interest in being …

The sin of pornography is subtle, tempting, and extremely widespread, affecting nearly all families.
Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. (1 Corinthians 6:18)
God instructs His children to be holy because He is holy. Sexual immorality and holiness are incompatible. Many people wrongly think that what they do alone in the privacy of their own homes won’t adversely affect them.
“New porn” targets the temptation of the imagination. Just enough skin, just enough seduction to …
