“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

Today was another historical day of taking a stand for the WFJ GLOBAL MOVEMENT. Team destiny hosted their final of three WFJ (Words From Jesus) webinars in December 2009 called “The Miracle of Christmas.”

Dr. Joseph Peck served as the global connector and host of this webinar. The guest panelists were: Deb Smith, Richard Mayhan, Bertha Hinson, and me, Abigail Slocum. Clearly the Holy Spirit took control of the webinar before it ever started and never let go!

He began by waking me up at 3:22 AM to give me this prophetic word – WFJ: THE MIRACLE OF CHRISTMAS IS CHRIST! It was His way of orchestrating the whole focus for the discussion. These are the questions we covered:

Take the tour of the Word and be free in Christ. CHRISTMAS IS A SEASON FOR MIRACLES BUT EVERY DAY IS A MIRACLE IN CHRIST! TO BE IN CHRIST IS THE GREATEST MIRACLE OF ALL.

SALVATION IS THE GREATEST MIRACLE OF ALL. It is God�s free gift to all mankind. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall be saved (have eternal life).(John 3:16).

What is so miraculous is that SALVATION IS THE “GREAT EXCHANGE!” MAN GIVES GOD HIS IMPERFECT, BROKEN, SINFUL LIFE IN EXCHANGE FOR A PERFECT (COMPLETE) LIFE IN CHRIST. JESUS GIVES HIS ALL FOR OUR ALL!

When you receive Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, the LIGHT OF THE WORLD – THE CANDLE OF MAN, comes into your heart to show you the most excellent way of all to live. IT IS THE WAY OF LOVE BECAUSE GOD IS LOVE.

In this “GREAT EXCHANGE,” your old sinful man dies and the new man comes alive in Christ. CHRIST LIVES THROUGH YOU to live the perfect will of God which is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Romans 14:17).

Unity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is your inheritance as a born again child of God. IT IS A LIFE OF VICTORY AND TOTAL PROVISION. To be one with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is to be free from every bondage of sin and to be free to experience the fullness and abundance of life in Christ Jesus. JESUS IS THE DOOR TO FREEDOM AND TOTAL FULFILLMENT.

What are your plans for celebrating Memorial Day 2008?

Yesterday I had the privilege to attend the worship service at White Oak Run Baptist Church and be one of the many people to honor Rev. Dr. Charlene Phillips on First Lady’s Day. Charlene has had a huge impact on me, my family, and my ministry. Charlene’s son, JJ Phillips, is my anointed graphics artist. In February 2008, Charlene began her two year term serving as president of the Culpeper Ministerial Association.

At the end of the First Lady’s Day service, Charlene had the opportunity to thank people and share her perspective. She mentioned how she and her husband Rev. Jacob drove to West Virginia on Friday May 23 to honor their parents and grandparents by placing flowers on their graves. It was a year ago that both Charlene’s and Jacob’s mothers died.

Charlene’s story prompted me to ask my wife about visiting her father’s grave today in Arlington Cemetery on Memorial Day along with her mother to put flowers on his grave. James (Jim) Kim, Julia’s father, was my best friends for years before he died in May 2001. That was 7 years ago and I still miss him tremendously. But his legacy continues on through his children and grandchildren. Jim served in World War II. My father served in the army for 23 years and then at the Pentagon Deputy General Counsel in the Office of the Secretary of the Army for another 15.

This morning I received a very touching Daily Gram from Jerry Graham titled “All Gave Some…Some Gave All.” In that, Jerry shares some interesting tidbits about the history of Memorial Day from the official www.usmemorialday.org website. For example:

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service.

Memorial Day is not about division. It is about reconciliation; it is about coming together to honor those who gave their all.

Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic.

The first state to officially recognize the holiday was New York in 1873. While Waterloo N.Y. was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May 1966, it’s difficult to prove conclusively the origins of the day.

Jerry goes on to share that the “traditional observance of Memorial day has diminished over the years. Many Americans nowadays have forgotten the meaning and traditions of Memorial Day… Now, as so accurately reported by Wikipedia, Memorial Day is used as a time for picnics, barbecues, family gatherings, and sporting events.”

Lord, may we remember those who died in the service of our country to preserve our freedoms. Let us not be so caught up in our holiday activities or political activism that fail to honor those who “gave their all.”

My devotional on April 8 mentioned how Jerry  Graham’s Daily Gram titled “The Big Mo” led me to the outstanding video message by Darcy & Tim Kimmel titled “Godly Advice to Get the Romance Back in Your Marriage.” Tim is President of Family Matters [www.familymatters.net]. The tail end of the Kimmel’s GodTube video mentioned www.iquestions.com.

Yesterday morning I was pasting notes from the past two weeks into my spiritual journal. While doing that, I came across the link to www.iquestions.com and decided to visit that website. I was impressed immediately and decided to click on “10 Terrific Tips for Raising Great Kids.” There I discovered 10 short, outstanding videos about raising great kids.

In the first video titled “Foster Good Work Ethics,” Kevin Leman shares some profound life lessons for raising responsible kids. He begins, “Here’s the question of the day: Are you rearing your kids in a home or a hotel? You know, most people rear their kids in hotels. What do I mean by that? They give them room service, food service, and very little is expected of them. Kids need to contribute to the home. They need to give back to the home. Every child from the time they are 3 and up can contribute to the family.

Kevin goes on to ask, “What can a 3 year old do?” Then he gives some concrete examples. Later, Kevin explains “As kids get older, they need to have bigger and bigger responsibilities. The idea is make sure the kids understand this principle that no member of the family is more important than the family. Everyone pitches in.”

When is the last time you changed a newborn’s diaper with one hand tied behind your back? How about tying both hands? Can’t be done? Keep reading!

I had plans to share a different message today, but I was so inspired by today’s Daily Gram [www.thecoachingpair.com] from Jerry Graham that I decided to bless you by sharing his message and video link.

As background, Jerry and Sharon send their Daily Gram to about 700 people 5 days a week. On average, about 140 people open these each day and 23% of those click through to their Link of the Day. That’s extremely high engagement for any bulk email, but especially for a daily one. With the ripple effect from email marketing, I suspect the good seeds that Jerry and Sharon sow daily are changing the lives of thousands if not ten of thousands of people. Amazing when you consider how little time is required.

Without further ado, here is Jerry’s message:

As you probably know by now, I’m a sucker for stories of “overcomers.” By overcomers, I mean those among us who refuse to let a little problem stop them from going after their dreams. I’ve featured a number of overcomers since we’ve started writing DGs, e.g., a dancing couple (one with only one arm and the other with only one leg), a motivational speaker without any arms or legs, a totally blind teen who has learned to navigate using clicking sounds he makes with his tongue, and a personal friend of ours who was born blind, but who went on to earn a law degree and become a concert pianist.

Well, Shelley Grieser, a budding coach from Denver, sent me two more incredible stories. I’ll share one today and the other in Friday’s Daily Gram. Today’s is about an incredibly awesome mother of a newborn who is handling all the usual motherhood responsibilities with excellence in spite of a handicap that would take most out of the game completely. You see, this amazing mom has no arms. What she does with her feet, would put many of us to shame.

Which of the practical “do’s” below could help you or a parent you know the most?

In her book “The Positive Family,” Arvella Schuller shares these practical do’s that she learned from wiser and older parents.

1) Don’t forget Daddy! As kids come into the family, it’s easy for the mother to neglect the needs of her husband. But he must remain first because some day all the kids will leave the nest. Having weekly date nights is important.

2) Mothers need a “be-nice-to-me” day once a month with girlfriends to get away from all the interruptions for a while and return their healthy outlook on life.

3) A good reliable babysitter is a most important investment. Don’t be afraid to pay a little more money. As children get older, “trading” them with other families can be treats for children while allowing parents nights alone or away from home.

4) Enjoy each stage and age! How easy this is said, and how difficult to do. But believe it or not, children do grow up rapidly.

5) Learn to laugh at yourself and teach your children to laugh. Make your home a place of abundant joy.

6) Since there is no such person as “the perfect parent,”become a realistic, happy, “imperfect parent.” Let your children know you are not perfect. We see through a dark glass and have no idea how today’s mistakes may prove to be tomorrow’s blessings.

7) Dare to have distinctive rules in your home! Let each of your children know this is the case. For instance, the Schullers never gave their children automatic allowances. They expected their children to help with family “maintenance” (e.g. making their beds, picking up their clothes, taking turns helping with daily chores.) They believed conditioning their children in the “no-work, no eat” philosophy promoted healthy, highly motivated attitudes. Only for special jobs, did their children earn spending money.

8) Dare to discipline! Spanking our small children’s bare bottoms with bare hands reaffirmed who was boss and restored law and order. It is of utmost importance to be united as parents in the area of discipline.

9) Teach the positives! The most important ingredient we, as parents, need to teach our children is the difference between positive and negative thinking. Teach your children to believe in their ability. That can happen only when we, as parents, believe the best about our children.

Prayer Power
Loving Father, thank You for the Bible, which provides wonderful, unchanging counsel to shape each of  us to positively influence others. Before we, as parents, can lead our children, we must learn to lead ourselves. Help us to do that. Help us to understand and apply the practical “do’s” of parenting above. Teach parents to rely on godly counsel of wiser and older parents. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

How well do you know your family?

Communication does not just happen automatically in a family, especially not today, when all kinds of interruptions and intrusions on our privacy complicate communications between each other. When we close the door to our home, we are no longer shutting out the rest of the world. The largest obstacles to communication in modern homes may well be the television set, the computer, and the cell phone.

A POSITIVE LOOK: When there is no time for talk, we must learn quickly the all-important lesson that a positive look, and I-am-proud-of-you look, can make or break a day. Husbands, wives, children, and our world all cry out for this wordless in-depth communication. When too much of a negative emotion continues to show, it is time to take a serious look at a child’s friends, habits, regular television programs, and even in his room or favorite desk drawer.

It’s important to look each other directly in the eye. Direct eye contact establishes the fact that we expect honesty and sincerity in return.

A POSITIVE WORD: One of the sad statistics of our society is that family dinners at home are fast disappearing. My parents always made meal time a priority. When they celebrated their 50th anniversary, several of their grandchildren commented on the value of this. When my daughter got her driver’s license, the judge commented that kids who have regular meals with their parents are much less likely to get into trouble.

In addition to meal time, bedtime is an important time for communication, including short devotions and prayers. Scheduling family vacations during the year is valuable for in-depth talking. Staying at a place without TV, computers, and telephone opens time for reflection and communication.

Children are asking for parents to listen. They have things they want to share. Kids need to hear their parents tell them over and over again “I love you,” “I’m proud of you,” “I’ll back you all the way.”

A POSITIVE TOUCH: Without a look, without a word, the touch isn’t very effective. It is hard to over emphasize the tremendous importance of the loving touch. Teenagers, adolescents, tiny children, husbands, and wives, are all begging for positive loving communication. “Look at me. Look and see what I’m really like.”

The basic problem with the American family today is that we’ve stopped looking, we’ve stopped talking, and we’ve stopped touching. If we are to heal the hurts of our nation, let’s begin with the family.

Heavenly Father, thank You for allowing me to grow up in a positive family environment. Thank You that my family enjoys being together. Help heal the emotional and spiritual wounds of those who suffered from many negative memories during their childhood. Help us to communicate within our families with a postive look, a positive word, and a positive touch. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

What can you do to preserve the sanctity of human life in America?

Yesterday we learned that sickness is often the result of sinful choices. Clearly, sexual promiscuity is against God’s will. It may lead to unwanted pregnancies, which in turn frequently lead to abortions. These often lead to long-term emotional illnesses.

“Many women choose abortion out of fear or a perceived lack of support, and the abortion industry is capitalizing on a woman’s vulnerability by selling her an abortion at the most challenging time in her life,” says Kim Conroy, Sanctity of Human Life Director for Focus on the Family. “Justice, mercy and compassion must be at the forefront of the conversation if we truly desire to extend healing to the women in our churches affected by abortion—both those who’ve already experienced it and those who are right now contemplating it.”

Sunday January 21, 2007 begins Sanctity of Human Life Week. This marks the 33rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade (1973), a landmark judicial opinion regarding abortion in the United States. The decision by the U.S. Supreme Court overturned all state and federal laws outlawing or restricting abortion that were inconsistent with its holdings. It is one of the most controversial and politically significant cases in U.S. Supreme Court history. The central holding of Roe v. Wade was that abortions are permissible for any reason a woman chooses, up until the “point at which the fetus becomes ‘viable.

Sanctity means ‘the quality of being sacred or holy.’ Christians often talk of human life as being sacred. They refer to the sanctity of life when considering issues such as abortion, euthanasia, embryo research, the care of disabled or the elderly. They believe there is something special or holy about human life. Every human, Christians believe, is special to God.

Prayer Power
Father, human life is sacred to You, the Creator of all life. Forgive us in this nation for all the sexual immorality and the resulting deaths of millions of babies. Bless Your children to reach out in practical ways to manifest Your love, hope, and life to fearful ladies with unwanted pregnancies. Thank You Jesus. Amen.
