In yesterday’s devotional titled “Changing Lives – Breaking Through,” we continued with our theme of Christ-enabled living, impossible living, heroic living. Yesterday’s key message: “When you change your thinking and your HABITS, you will change your life.” You were presented with an opportunity to participate in today’s life-changing webinar to change your thinking and habits.

While preparing the PowerPoint presentation for today’s webinar, I was prompted to write down some of the new fruit I personally experienced from the Journal 201 course. Here is a partial list:
1) Began using The Journal myself
2) Got connected to Debra Thompson Roedl and the Wealth Alliance Group
3) Transformation Virginia was officially launched
4) Launched my own web store with products, courses, and memberships
5) Soul Purpose Church (my church) formally adopted “Coaching you to discover and fulfill your soul purpose” as its mission
6) Door opened for an alliance between Team Destiny and Lifeforming Leadership Coaching
7) I bought a brand new bicycle. My old one was more than 25 years old (literally an antique).

In my August 22 devotional, I mentioned that Joseph Umidi was my top new contact in 2006 and Debra Thompson Roedl has been my top new contact in 2008.
 
On August 19, Joseph sent the monthly Lifeforming Leadership Coaching e-newsletter promoting our webinar to his 1,500 or so contacts. In his message titled “Coaching with an ‘Ear To Hear’,” Joseph wrote:

A few weeks ago I talked to Buddy Smith, Executive Assistant to the Chairman for the American Family Association. He told me he is willing to have Jerry and I interviewed about our combo coaching and journaling courses on Today’s Issues (American Family Radio). AFR has more than 1 million listeners nationwide.

Who is responsible for education?

While searching online for an appropriate Link of the Day for yesterday’s devotional about reflection, I came across an excellent blog called “Save Our Constitution.” Here are a few excerpts:

America is under attack–not just from terrorists, but from Socialists, Communists, Liberals, Humanists and other misguided Utopians and world government supporters… America is in danger. There was a time when the Constitution defined our nation, but today through loopholes, immoral misinterpretation, judicial activism, citizen ignorance and pure legal fabrication the Constitution is being TRAMPLED ON. This great document resides in the National Archives in a dimly lit room, under bulletproof glass, in a case filled with pressurized helium. If only the principles it stands for were so protected!

Education, both religious and secular, is first and foremost the responsibility of parents. In a time of compulsory education laws and socialist state-sponsored humanist instruction, this truth is largely forgotten. Some good friends of mine have made the difficult decision to home school their children. They sometimes feel that they aren’t included as full members of the community because they are “different,” but I admire their courage. For them, home school is a marvelous opportunity to teach their children in an environment of love and faith. While home school may not be the best option for every family, it certainly ensures that children will be educated according to the beliefs and traditions of parents, not the beliefs and traditions of the State.

It is impossible to truly understand the miracle that created the United States of America without first understanding that God was the author of it. Trying to explain the history of America without discussing divine guidance is like trying to explain the purpose of the interstate highway system without talking about cars. Since God cannot be discussed in our places of learning, our public schools have utterly failed to teach children about their American heritage and the faith of the founders that won the Revolutionary War.

The founders sacrificed much, some of them everything, for the freedoms we enjoy today. Revisionist historians who view the actions of the founders through the warped lens of modernity are often less interested in truth than in sensationalizing the weaknesses and frailties of men and women whom they ought to revere. The posterity that has been blessed by the courage and prayers of their forebears may not be able to fully understand the struggles of their ancestors, but parents can teach their children the story of America. The real America is not defined by openness and tolerance, diversity, multi-culturalism and godlessness. Rather, it is defined by religion, principle, morality and character. If parents fail to teach their children the importance of the American Revolution and the character and strength of the founders, their children will lack the understanding and motivation to resist the losses of freedom that will inevitably continue. Every child should know what America stands for and be prepared to defend this nation and its founders at a moment’s notice.

Heavenly Father, thank You for all the homeschoolers in our nation and the parents who have made the choice to put the education of their own children ahead of other things in this world. Bless them Lord. Use these young people to raise up a high standard for faith, family, and freedom in America. Thank You Jesus. Amen.

Hey Randy

Just want to say I’ve enjoyed reading your inspirational messages each day.

And, that it was a pleasure meeting you and spending time talking with you this past August at the Founders Inn (Os Hillman).

Enjoyed your message on the significance of 400 years.  Just wanted to add, and I know you’re aware of this, that prior to moving on to Jamestown, those colonist first landed at Cape Henry in Virginia Beach where by proclamation for the crowne, they landed on these shores, erected a cross and dedicated this land to God. America and Israel are the only two countries in the world dedicated to God.

I’m working feverishly with two things going on here in Hampton Roads.

The first in April, we will have a huge celebration of the 400th Anniversary of the First Landing and dedicating this land to God.

Check out the website for all that is in the works at www.theassembly2007.org. Then in May we will have the Greater Hampton Roads Franklin Graham Festival.  Boom, Boom!!!!!  Two major events with God’s hands all over them, during this 400th anniversary of the landing of these extraordinary settlers to our land.

Do you choose to see possibilities?
Do you really believe they are there?

Yesterday, Joseph Umidi and Dan Tingley came to Culpeper Virginia from Virginia Beach to bless our city. We had a total of 15 people for this very first “Healthy Virginia” meeting. While we had an agenda, God changed it considerably. People shared their hearts and God conceived something great that will be unstoppable.

I knew that Joseph was the founder of Transformational Leadership Coaching (TLCI). I learned that he also is a pastor who oversees eight churches as well as a professor at Regent University. While Dan already had a lot on his plate with three of his own companies, God called him recently to help Joseph grow the LIFE coaching network.

Michael Stay brought a new 22 minute video by Dewitt Jones called “Celebrate what’s right with the world!” We watched that whole movie as a group. Dewitt is one of America’s top professional photographers with a career stretching over twenty years with National Geographics. As a motion picture director, he had two films nominated for Academy Awards before he was thirty.

In Celebrate What’s Right With The World, Dewitt Jones asks: Do we choose to see possibilities? Do we really believe they’re there? He assures us that there is always more than one right answer. Celebrating what’s right with the world helps us recognize the possibilities and find solutions for many of the challenges before us.

The icing on the cake yesterday was that all six of the most influential coaches in my life were present together for the first time.

Thank You LORD for bringing Joseph and Dan to Culpeper to bless our city. Thank You for all the good seeds that were planted in rich soil yesterday. May You water those with Your miracle grow. Bless and grow Your team to make Virginia the healthiest state in the nation. Call forth leaders in Culpeper to go through TLCI’s LIFE coach training beginning in mid January 2007. Thank You Jesus. Amen.

If you have children, are you teaching them about God as you experience life together?

My peculiar Thanksgiving celebration in North Carolina didn’t end with the dinner at the Oxford Bar and Grill on Thanksgiving Day. Early the next morning I went with Robbie, my son, to Best Buy in Cary North Carolina. Robbie wanted to take advantage of the super sales that take place on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving in the United States.

We arrived at Best Buy at 4:45 AM, 15 minutes before the store opened. To my amazement there were already about two thousand people in a long line that stretched a few hundred yards. We didn’t get into the store until about 30 minutes after it opened and by then the 22″ flat screen computer monitors my son wanted were already gone. However, we did find some other good deals.

In my entire life, I had never gone shopping on Black Friday to try to take advantage of the sales. I felt somewhat embarrassed going to the shopping mall the day after Thanksgiving. I’m personally bothered by the excessive consumerism in America.

The good news is that by joining my son in something he wanted to do, we had several hours of quality conversation. Robbie appreciated me coming. After having breakfast with my wife and two children, we left to drive back home to Culpeper. During this four hour drive, I had a delightful long spiritual conversation with Robbie.

Gracious Father, thank You for all the quality time our family had together this Thanksgiving weekend. Thank You for opening the door for some wonderful spiritual conversations with my son. Bless those who read this message with a deeper knowledge of who You are and how much You love them. Teach them how to  talk about You naturally as they go about their lives. Thank You Jesus. Amen.

For the past few weeks Matt Gregory, my pastor, has been preaching a series at Soul Purpose Church titled “Less is More.” Matt is a great communicator and learned a lot from Rick Warren’s CD series titled “Preaching for Life Change.”

Rick Warren is a master communicator. No matter what we do for a living, we can learn a lot about influencing people within our own sphere of influence by understanding how he communicates. When Rick prepares a sermon, he does a little thing called CRAFT, which is a methodology he’s developed:

C stands for collect and categorize
R is research and reflect
A is apply and arrange
F is fashion and flavor
T is to trim and tie it all together.

The toughest part for me when I prepare a message is trimming the message down. I have to remind myself that keeping things short and simple often has the greatest impact on people.

What step can you take to improve how you communicate with others?

Jesus, almost everything you said was profoundly simple. Forgive me when I complicate things by being too long-winded with people. Help me to be a better listener. Teach me to teach others with short stories (parables) like You did. Train me to be a master communicator and then bless me with the opportunity to speak to hundreds of thousands of physicians and health care workers to transform their lives as You transformed mine. I pray that You make Virginia the healthiest state in the nation. Thank You Jesus. Amen.
